| Melbourne Melbourne is one of Australia's oldest cities, and lays claim to a diversity and accessibility of attractions unrivalled among its counterparts. Its colourful cultural life is continually expressed in a vivacious atmosphere, which includes an all-year round parade of festivals, music, theatre and sport. Good food and dining are a quintessential part of Melbourne's identity. A delightful array of ethnic culinary traditions create one of the richest and most varied ranges of dining experiences available anywhere in the world. World-renowned Victorian wines are on hand to please even the most discerning palate. The city is complemented by the attractions just beyond. Tall timber mountains, fern gullies, spectacular coastline, endless beaches, snowfields, mighty waterways, and wide countryside all lie within reach of the city and are easily accessible on public transport and by car. Climate and Clothing Melbourne's climate is hospitable even in winter months. Warm clothing and umbrellas are requisite from June through to September, but this provides no obstacle to enjoyment of the wide range of activities that lie on Melbourne's doorstep. Temperatures during July range from 13-15 degrees celsius, and most shops and hotels are centrally heated during winter. Generally, Australians are casual dressers and this style of clothing would be acceptable for the conference sessions. However, you may wish to dress a little more formally for the conference dinner.
